Quantum Computing: A New Paradigm for Processing Information

10:50–11:30 CET · Speakeasy · Track: Humans

Quantum computing represents a fundamentally different approach to computation—one that goes beyond simply making existing computers faster. By leveraging quantum-mechanical principles such as superposition, entanglement, and interference, quantum computers introduce new ways of representing, processing, and extracting information from data. In this talk, we will explore the core ideas behind quantum computing from a software and developer perspective, without requiring a background in quantum physics. We will look at how quantum computation differs from the classical computing model, how quantum algorithms are designed, and why certain classes of problems may benefit from this new computational paradigm. We will also examine where quantum computing stands today, how quantum processors can work alongside classical CPUs and GPUs in hybrid architectures, and which application areas—from optimization and simulation to machine learning—are actively being explored. Finally, we will move from theory to practice with demonstrations of quantum circuits and algorithms, explore real-world quantum computing use cases, and take a closer look at the emerging field of Quantum Machine Learning. The goal is not only to understand how quantum computers work, but to develop an intuition for what it means to build software for an entirely new model of computation
